WunderKids

How-to videos

Short, silent-friendly guides: every step is written on screen, so they work with the sound off. Each one also has its text underneath.

Getting started

Both phones, from the first download to the first unlocked game.

How WunderKids works

0:29

The daily loop in half a minute.

  1. Your child opens a gated app. Apple's lock screen appears instead.
  2. Three quick questions: collect three stars.
  3. Unlocked: back to their app for 15 minutes.
  4. Stars they want to keep: a day streak, and practice they can do any time.
  5. You see what stuck: challenges, accuracy, and the facts they've mastered.

Setting up WunderKids

1:26

Your phone, your child's phone, the daily loop, and what you see afterwards.

  1. On your phone: tap “This is my phone”, sign in, add your child, and tap “Pair phone” for a 6-digit code.
  2. On your child's phone: tap “This is my kid's phone”, enter the code, set a grown-up PIN, allow Screen Time, stop the app being deleted, then pick the apps and turn the shield on.
  3. What your child sees: a gated app shows Apple's lock screen, three questions unlock it, and their own home screen keeps their stars and streak.
  4. What you see: progress week against week, and the Plan screen where you change the rules any time.

Everyday controls

Everything here is on one screen: tap your child, then Plan. Changes reach their phone the next time it checks in.

How many questions?

0:29

Questions per challenge, the challenge interval, and the daily limit.

  1. Questions per challenge, 3 to 5: how many stars your child collects before an app unlocks. Three is the default.
  2. Challenge interval, 10 to 60 minutes: how long one cleared challenge unlocks an app for. Then the next challenge comes round.
  3. Most challenges a day, 5 to 15: after the last one the day's work is done, and apps stay open until the cut-off with nothing more to answer.
  4. Tap Save. Their phone picks up the new plan the next time it checks in.

Bonus rounds

0:26

A little more time after the cut-off, earned with a longer quiz.

  1. After the day's cut-off, your child can answer a longer quiz to keep going a bit. It's the only way past the cut-off.
  2. Extra time per quiz: 15 to 30 minutes.
  3. Bonus rounds per day: 1 to 3. One is the default.
  4. Bonus rounds only work between the cut-off and bedtime, and their time is cut short at bedtime. After bedtime nothing reopens the apps until morning.

App hours and bedtime

0:22

Three times a day decide everything.

  1. Start and End: between these times a challenge unlocks an app. The default is 8:00 to 19:00. Before Start, apps stay locked and the lock screen says when they open.
  2. Bedtime: between End and Bedtime only a bonus round gets through. After Bedtime nothing reopens them until morning. Set Bedtime the same as End for no bonus rounds at all.
  3. Customize Days: different hours for school days and weekends, each with its own Start, End and Bedtime.

Reading their progress

0:27

What each part of your child's page tells you.

  1. Today, This week, This month: each compared with a usual day, last week or last month.
  2. Five numbers: Time learning, Challenges, Right first try, Answer speed and Days practised.
  3. The Mastery map: every square is one fact, and it goes green when they get it right on different days. “Try these at the dinner table” lists facts they're still working on.
  4. Practice habit: one square a day, darker for more challenges.

All four in one

1:33

Questions, bonus rounds, hours and progress, back to back.
